Woodland Lino Print
The supplies needed for this project:
Lino
Lino cutter
Graphite pencil
Felt tip pen
Printing ink pad
Blank paper, fabric or card to print onto
I used these woodland designs from the Design Library for my stamps, but feel free to explore our most popular designs here as well for more stamp inspiration.
You can begin by transferring the design onto the lino with the graphite transfer method. If you’re curious we have a blog post about this method here. Next, trace the graphite design with a felt tip pen so that the design won’t smudge as you carve it.
With your design traced, you can begin carving out the design. With lino prints, carve away anything you do not want the ink to cover, this includes the space around your stamp. You can use a larger flatter tool to carve out the large spaces around your design and a smaller finer tool for the details.
Once you’ve carved away the design’s white space, you can test the print. Often with the first print, you will notice some little spots you missed while carving so it’s a good idea to do a test print on scrap paper.
Once you have cleaned up any imperfections, you can go ahead and print on your final paper, fabric or card! Feel free to wash this print with some soap and water, or wipe the ink off with a paper towel. Lino prints are built to last, so enjoy your homemade stamps for years to come!
